40+ Taglines and Hero Areas by Designers and Agencies.

We all know how hard it can be writing out the perfect tagline, or opening headlines for our website. How do you tell your visitors what you do and how you do it with only a few words? A good tagline is engineered to be memorable, brief, communicate emotion, and lead into explanation. Good intro text is straight to the point and explains things clearly in a few sentences.

Depending on your brand and message some can be very professional and straight to the point, and others a bit more relaxed and playful. Here is a collection of taglines and intro messages from freelance designers and design agencies around the world for your inspiration.

Feel free to share with us your thoughts by leaving a comment: Why are some of these better than others, and why?

I work as a brand copy consultant, and I wrestle with these issues every day. Unfortunately most of these taglines are failures. They explain what they do, but neglect to mention why anybody should care. It’s easy to say “we create stunning websites” but it is harder to actually be stunning. Take a look at the work I did for the design team Process 39 at http://www.process39.com also posted below.

Great Ideas Launched Here
We’re in the rocket-fuel business

Brainstorm. Napkin sketch. Product launch.
Process 39 can take your next great idea from market opportunity to final delivery.

You’ve got great ideas. Great design will make them real.

I agree somewhat - some of these taglines, mine included, focus exclusively on what the company does. I am in the process of redesigning my site and rewriting a lot of the copy so I will take your opinion on board. I do think that it is important to state who you are and what you do.

For example, with your Process 39 copy it almost feels like all of those lines are in competition with each other, there’s not much flow and I have a hard time figuring out exactly what Process 39 actually does. In my opinion, it would have been much stronger to go with just one of those taglines and then have a supporting paragraph explaining what the company’s capabilites are.

Interesting that almost nobody says who their service is for. They all state what they do, but never who their market segment is. I understand that most agencies can do it all (personal or corporate), but I think it is really powerful when I visit a site and I can tell its FOR people like me.

Anyway, lots of great design examples. Thanks for sharing!

Interesting observation, I agree!

bigjess On January 29th, 2010

Personally , im sick of intros that are “hey, im cool, i design stuff” I find it a little immature, and not really welcoming . way to vague and childish. I would look for something more of services , and focal area.

Nils Geylen On February 03rd, 2010

Agreeing with the commenters here: a lot of these are vague, some are childish, and most don’t really have a USP. A prospect loves to see what the company can do for them.

So instead of writing: hey, I’m awesome, how about something like: if you want x, you’ve come to the right place.

Also: don’t tell people they need a website, tell them that with a new website they can have x as a benefit.

Still, great collection of beautiful and inspiring companies here though.
